    Background Information

    Paternal
    Family had large estates in Poland 40 miles north of Krakow, the village was called Chrzynow. Father was strongly attached to Poland and went back every year in order not to lose his Polish nationality. Religion R.C. (M. was brought up C. of E.) Father lived in London some 20 years, eventually went to live in Paris for health reasons. Died 1937.

    Maternal
    Mother born Alice Mary Evans, of Welsh Parentage. Maternal grandfather Naval Officer.

    Sister
    Helen, b. 1988 Distinguished Gynaecologist (Dr. Helena Wright.) Founder of the Family Planning Association. Worked many years in India. Now aged 92.
